INTEGRATED FORECAST DISSEMINATION PORTAL (INSTANT)

Integrated Forecast Dissemination (INSTANT) is a web-based platform developed for sharing forecast products, risk, and resource-related information intuitively through iconography and customizable templates. The platform is used by meteorological services to communicate impact-based forecasts of different hazards by integrating real-time data with exposure and vulnerability information from collaborating departments. The system automatically disseminates alerts for major extreme events to subscribers. It is widely used by disaster management organizations, I/NGOs, and UN agencies in Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka.

Currently, the INSTANT portal of Bangladesh is under customization with additional features, such as the Dynamic Landslide Early Warning System, under the ‘Anticipatory Action for Landslides’ project implemented in partnership with Save the Children Bangladesh and funded by the European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO-HIP).

The portal was initially developed with support from UNDP, SDC, ECHO, and the Government of Japan, with technical development led by RIMES and the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD). Later enhancements were supported by DFAT through BRAC and USAID through UCAR.
